||
2618-T61 round aluminum bar is a heat-treatable aluminum-copper-nickel-magnesium alloy developed specifically for components that must carry mechanical load while running hot. Where standard 2xxx alloys lose strength above roughly 150°C, 2618-T61 maintains useful properties during prolonged operation at 200°C and beyond, which is why it has served the piston and rotor industries for decades. The T61 temper provides a controlled aging response that optimizes creep resistance without sacrificing fatigue strength or machinability.
Our 2618-T61 bars are forged-route material converted to bar form, giving a dense, fiber-oriented structure with no centerline porosity. Each length is straightened, aged and verified by hardness and conductivity testing before release, and every delivery includes full mill documentation.

2618-T61 round aluminum bar is the material of choice for diesel engine pistons, compressor pistons, cylinder heads, brake components and other thermally loaded parts in trucks, marine engines, generators and industrial reciprocating machines. The alloy is also found in aerospace applications such as engine casings and heat resistant structural fittings where light weight and hot strength must be combined. Manufacturers of forging stock and near-net blanks convert this bar into piston preforms, and machine shops produce finished pistons directly from bar for low and medium volume programs.
Processing ServicesWe supply sawn or machined blanks, fully turned piston preforms and bars with reduced tolerance for automated lathe feeding. Centerless ground surface options are available for applications requiring precise outside diameter control. Each order can be matched with heat treatment verification records and ultrasonic inspection reports to support aerospace or automotive quality submissions.
Packaging & Quality AssuranceMaterial is protected with anti-rust oil and wrapped in waterproof paper before loading into fumigation-free plywood cases, ensuring the surface arrives in prime condition for machining. Bars are separated with cushioning material to avoid transit fretting. Our production is ISO 9001 certified, and every lot is tested for chemical composition, tensile properties and hardness before dispatch.
